- About Rahma’s Voice -
Who is Rahma?
Rahma (رحمة) is the Arabic word for Mercy. The Voice of Mercy (صوت الرحمة), as our name directly translates in Arabic, is the voice for the voiceless, breaking the silence from the shadows and driven by the transformative power of Mercy. It is a mandate to speak what others cannot.
The complex webs of poverty and vulnerability that stretch across the world often act as silent accomplices to exploitation. At Rahma's Voice, we spotlight the untold story of 'Rahma,' a symbolic figure representing countless young women whose accounts of abuse and marginalization have been locked in the dark.
By forging impactful research and partnerships within the Middle East, we aim to dissect and dismantle the multiple factors contributing to exploitation. Our work is illuminating the issue and being a beacon of change in the Arab world.
And at the heart of our mission is the profound message of Mercy, a cornerstone of the Gospel. We sincerely believe that the voice of Mercy has the power to bring the emancipating love of Jesus to individuals trapped in the bleakest corners of despair. In doing so, we not only free them from their chains but also introduce them to the endless compassion of our merciful savior, Jesus Christ.
Where We Started
Rahma's Voice was born out of a passion for human trafficking and five years of living and working with Syrian Refugees in Lebanon. Spending time with these individuals exposed the dark underworld that intense poverty and vulnerability create.
So much information about human trafficking exists in the United States, Central America, and East Asia. Yet, very few resources provide information on the issue in the Middle Eastern context.
Rahma's Voice aims to change just that.
What We Do
Rahma's Voice currently serves as a platform to publish research and findings on topics surrounding the issue of trafficking in the Middle East.
Through partnerships with local churches and organizations and direction from research institutions, Rahma's Voice seeks to expose the hidden issues, cultural factors, and situational uniques to trafficking in the Arab World.
A LETTER FROM THE FOUNDER
Dear Partners,
I have had the privilege of working in the Middle East for several years. I have seen firsthand how culture, religion, war, and poverty collide, creating situations ripe for exploitation. The issue of trafficking in this region is unique and ranges from forced migration and people smuggling to sex trafficking in the context of legalized short contract "marriages."
As I began to explore the issue, I was surprised by the lack of information on the subject. I had dreamed of starting an intervention organization. Still, I need help finding reliable data on the issue to begin with. Rahma's Voice was born from all those untold stories and unknown data. I want to bring this issue to light to defeat the darkness.
I hope that one day, Rahma's Voice can take the research and information we have been compiling for years and build a data-driven anti—trafficking initiative aimed at awareness, intervention, and rehabilitation.
